The benevolent, god-like Hanguang-Jun definitely didn't seize him, tie him up so that he couldn't resist, and drag him back home with him. What a scary man!

[ten minutes later there's a knocking on his roof. he is not using the door, you cannot make him]

[he's not trying to make him.

looks up at the knocking. is he just, going to come in through the window?]

[Lan Wangji's house is mercifully pretty bee-poor. hesitates and nods to him from where he's painstakingly lining shattered bits of tile up to see if they make a pattern.]

[squatting down to push two pieces of tile together with a finger]

I'm here, Lan Zhan. I hope this isn't what you've been doing in place of copying scriptures.

[ignores that comment]

[fiddles with his really shitty-tasting bottle of wine (it's still mostly full, that's how you know it's bad), eyes intent on the little pieces of tile. he sets the bottle aside and moves another two tile pieces together]

How much do you know about the future? You talked to Lan Zhan about it, right?

Some.

[not much. he moves aside peacefully to let Wei Wuxian help with that.]

[slides another piece together, but it doesn't fit, and he pushes it away]

...Lan Zhan didn't say anything. You'd think after thirteen years, he'd get impatient! But it seems you both have unparalleled patience. If you say you're going to wait it just sounds like you're saying that you're not going to say anything at all.

[glances over at him... seems to be thinking of what to say.]

[nods in agreement]

[shakes his head; it's different for another reason]

[in his defense, there are a lot of things he didn't know. it's hard to pinpoint exactly which one he's referring to in this instance]

[this is so strange. it's blindingly obvious to him that his older self thought he had made his feelings clear already when he rescued Wei Wuxian, and had been rejected; it was what he believed himself, after all. that was why the first thing his other self told him about the future he lived in was that Wei Wuxian hadn't remembered. of course one wouldn't revisit that rejection again when Wei Wuxian returned to life, and pressure him when he had few allies. that wasn't the sort of thing Lan Wangji wanted from Wei Wuxian at all.

[fiddles around with a few more tile pieces, not really trying to connect them, but to give himself something to look at that isn't Lan Wangji's face.]

He wouldn't have known. I tried to remember after Zewu-jun told me, but I couldn't remember anything no matter how hard I tried. It's probably the same for him. My memory is quite bad. He won't know something unless you tell him.
