Player Information
Player Name Ellie Contact [plurk.com profile] thelibrarian | Ellie#8346
AKA I played Shirayuki a lot of places! More recently I also played Sorey a lot of places. Previously Colette and Yona in Sidereal.
Character Basics
Character Name Wei Wuxian | birth name Wei Ying Series/Canon Mo Dao Zu Shi | Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
AU/PG/Canon Point Taken from post-canon & some additional PG experience from A Princess Dormant Game [community profile] sidereal_rp
Canon Details MDZS follows the tale of several complicatedly interrelated sects of cultivators (fantasy ancient China wizards) in Fantasy Ancient China. The story encompasses complex themes such as politics, love, intrigue, necromancy, not being able to handle your liquor, extremely bad coping decisions, being a dumb asshole, threatening to fuck your boyfriend while doing a handstand, having great women characters and then bussing them, and "they're trying so hard? why are they so bad at this? why are they. wh"

The story begins by informing you that the titular Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Wei Wuxian, has died! A lot of the current day plot leads from that circumstance, and a lot of the flashback plot builds to it happening. In this AU of events, each of two versions of Wei Wuxian and his deuteragonist (/♥LOVE INTEREST♥) Lan Wangji were offered wishes at two different timepoints in their canon: one after the dust had settled 14 years later, and one immediately after the main event. How they decided to try to fix what had gone wrong there was up to their mental state at the time.

What mission the wish-granting force wants from them return for this favor is still unclear, but it let them know they'd be traveling to new worlds to figure it out, and they'd better keep their goals in mind! After some ill-defined time in a tutorial world that bore a suspicious aesthetic similarity to [community profile] aprincessdormant_online (RIP) to learn how questing works when you understand what the object is, they were kicked to another world... it was supposed to be Sidereal, right? No one's saying anything, so we can only hope.

Wei Wuxian's standing wish is to bring back to life the loved ones who were directly or indirectly killed as a result of his actions. This is, specifically, to bring them back to life in the present--no going back and changing what happened in the past, just moving forward with it.

15 Second Summary As the protagonist of a novel, Wei Wuxian has all the right qualities: he’s cheerful, charming, curious, quick-thinking, knowledgeable, and clever. He grows up as the adopted son of the leaders of the Jiang sect alongside his adoptive siblings. His habit of causing mischief and pushing other people’s boundaries makes him somewhat of a mixed bag of company growing up, but hey, it keeps people on their toes. When the occasion calls for it he can behave like a Proper Ancient Chinese Fantasy Gentleman, but most of the time he is casual and overly-friendly. No matter how bad a situation gets he bounces back and keeps positive.

Unfortunately for literally everyone involved in this timeline, the Wen sect starts subjugating other sects during his teenage years. They wipe out the entire Jiang sect leaving Wei Wuxian and his adoptive siblings to flee as fugitives from cultivator law. His brother’s spiritual powers are destroyed in the process, and Wei Wuxian secretly gives him his own.

Before they can complete their escape, the Wens capture Wei Wuxian and dump him in a zombie-infested wasteland (the Burial Mounds) to die! He survives by learning to utilize resentful energy and creates demonic cultivation, a forbidden path. He then reappears during the war and slaughters thousands of Wen sect members as revenge, because that's how you deal with trauma here.

The brutal massacre is fine until the war is done and the other sects start to regard him as a problem. A bad combination of keeping too many secrets and resentful energy amplify his negative emotions and result in him lashing out at others in public, souring his relations with the other sects and his adoptive siblings. The situation worsens when he takes the remaining Wens under his protection and lives in isolation with them on the Burial Mounds. A few unfortunate chance encounters result in the deaths of important political figures and people he deeply cares about. His hero complex is so bad that he destroys his life by trying to do the right thing on his own and refusing to accept or reach out for help from others.Bad decisions and an inability to communicate escalate the situation, and the sects besiege the Burial Mounds in order to kill him and the remaining Wens. He is ripped apart by the backlash of his own powers during the final fight. Ouch.

But his death doesn’t stick; thirteen years later he revives in someone else’s body! He pretends to be that guy for a little while. He is a complete idiot. When he is revived he has to do ONE THING and that is to keep away from cultivators who hate him. He immediately does the opposite of that and is caught by Lan Wangji, someone he considers an enemy from his past life. Despite having enough ingenuity to invent a new type of (demonic) cultivation, he has a terrible memory. It takes him most of most of the novel to recall that Lan Wangji was often trying to help him in the past, not hurt him, and only sees this when Lan Wangji continues to do that in the present. He's also as emotionally intelligent as a sack of peanuts. It takes him over a decade and two other people telling him that someone is in love with him before he considers that maybe that person is in love with him.

Wei Wuxian uses his knowledge of the undead to assist Lan Wangji on wacky adventures involving murder, politics, and a disembodied hand! Misunderstandings and shenanigans happen until they figure out their feelings for each other and solve a mystery.

And then they get married and mostly retire. He never shuts up.
Abilities & Permissions
Abilities He possesses some typical (demonic) cultivator abilities:
-He has the ability to see, sense, and communicate with the dead
-Related, he has the power to use resentful or demonic energy to control undead beings and spirits. He communicates with them either directly through speech, whistling, clapping his hands, or via his flute.
-He’s pretty good at playing the flute as a result. Actually, he’s skilled in the “six arts” of ancient China: poetry, music, archery, calligraphy (and art), mathematics, and equestrianism.
-He can do some basic cultivation techniques such as: making lifelike (paper) puppets that follow his orders, transferring his soul to other objects, and creating written talismans.
-Basically think necromancer. He is Ancient Fantasy China Necromancer.

In addition to his cultivator skills, he’s also still decent at using a sword and has a ridiculously high tolerance for alcohol and spicy foods. It should be considered a skill to be as bad at cooking as he is, too.
Permissions Please hit me up OOCly to discuss maiming/death/noncon things before they happen ICly!

Spirit-Controlling Nonsense: As noted above, he has the ability to use resentful (or "demonic") energy to control undead beings and spirits! My default is to not have this impact player characters in any way--the nature of the spiritual energy in Sidereal is different enough to handwave otherworld-y interference, etc. But if you do want to play with it in some way, feel free to let me know!
Sensing He gives off some dark/demonic pings when he’s using his abilities, since it's all resentful energy. Feel free to also sense that this body definitely does not belong to his soul. I mean it does now but it didn't before.

Also feel free to notice that he has the same (older) soul as [personal profile] laughitoff, but a completely different body.
